Allgemeines

Ein Großbataillon^{2 K.2} (orig: Grand Battalion) entsprach grundsätzlich dem im Principia Belicosa beschriebenem Orden mit einer Stärke von tausend Space Marines, verfügte darüber hinaus aber über Panzerfahrzeuge, Artillerie und logistische Nachschubelemente.^{1 S.112}

Aufgrund der hohen Abnutzung wurde auch innerhalb von Kriegsgebieten kontinuierlich rekrutiert, was zu einer hohen Fluktuation in der Anzahl der Iron Warriors führte, sodass dokumentierte Beispiele über die Bataillonsgröße von 500 bis 4000 Space Marines existieren.^{1 S.112}

Das Grandbataillon bestand aus Kohorten, Großkompanien und den Tyranthikos. Es wurde von einem Kriegsschmied angeführt.^{1 S.112} Legionäre der Stor-Bezashk konnten den Einheiten als Unterstützung zugeordnet werden.^{1 S.112}
